Promote exemplary and noteworthy content within a conversation or across a site.
Featured Content is an easy-to-use yet powerful tool for highlighting, elevating and redisplaying noteworthy content. With one click, your moderators, community managers or editors can send a content item to the top of the comments section or even to your homepage.
Adjust the Enable Featured Comments setting under Default Settings in Studio to display featured comments above the editor in Comments Apps.
Here’s what we’ll cover in this guide:
Featured Content Best Practices
Steer the Conversation
To increase engagement and comment count, consider featuring a question or call to action posted by a moderator or journalist at the top of the comment stream. By ending the reading experience with a clear prompt to engage, the barrier to commenting is significantly reduced. This strategy will also encourage more thoughtful comments as readers will be responding to something specific. For a live event, you can dynamically update the featured call to action to keep the conversation evolving in real time.
Set a High Bar
Featuring user comments is another great strategy for encouraging participation and high quality comments. Your readers will be delighted to see their comments featured, which will encourage them to comment more within that conversation and across your site. Featuring comments allows your team to set the first impression as your audience approaches the comments section, sets a high bar for the caliber of the conversation, and nudges users to pay attention to the comments section. Featuring comments is also an effective way to live out your community guidelines and incentivize your community to leave feature-worthy comments across the board.
“Featuring comments allows us to steer the conversation and give a small reward to commenters who contribute to the value of an article.” Bree Royce, Editor-in-Chief, Massively by Joystiq
Answer a Question
If your community or moderation team is receiving the same repeated questions (or you expect to), use Featured Comment to answer the question and reduce confusion. This is particularly relevant for posts related to an event or a promotion.
Make a Featuring Plan
Moderators can feature or unfeature content directly from a Comments, Live Blog or Reviews App or in the Content and ModQ sections of Studio. We recommend formally incorporating the featuring of content into your team’s workflow so that as many conversations as possible can have featured content. Consistency across article pages increases the impact that featuring content has on your community strategy.
Redisplay Featured Content
Livefyre’s platform also supports redisplaying recently featured content from across a site or network in a centralized place. Take advantage of the great content that your users are creating by posting featured content on your homepage or a category landing page. This demonstrates how active and engaged the community is on your site and provides another opportunity for readers to click through to popular articles. Here are docs on retrieving featured content from across a site or network.
Tip: Only the two most recently Featured Comments will appear at the top of a Comments stream. Unfeature and then refeature a comment if you’d like it to be at the top!
