Allow users to review products, services, and experiences, directly on your site.
Reviews is a flexible and useful addition to Core Apps, allowing your audience to express their ideas and opinions along with a numerical rating value. When your readers write reviews for your site, they are engaging directly with your brand and are creating evergreen content, which increases pageviews and time on site. The Ratings API can be used to drop a custom rating app anywhere on your site.
Here are a few ideas about how you can use Reviews and the Ratings API for content creation and one-click engagements, while simultaneously building community and conversation. If your account has not subscribed to Reviews and you are interested in learning more, please contact your Technical Account Manager or email@example.com.
This guide will cover:
Benefits of Reviews
Reviews has an Enable Replies setting, enabling your users to have a conversation below each user review. This turns each review from a static piece of content into a community conversation, where readers can interact with each other and ask follow up questions of the reviewer.
Reviews and the Ratings API are extremely configurable. You can configure the maximum possible rating, half ratings, the number of dimensions within the review which are being rated and even the star rating icon itself so that it is on brand for your site. You can also choose whether to include the average rating summary and rating breakdown summary above the app. Learn more about implementing Reviews configurations.
As with all Livefyre Apps, Reviews supports photo uploading from both desktop and mobile. User reviews that include photos are generally considered to be more helpful. Adjust the Allow Photo Upload Network or Site setting under Default Settings, or enable the setting at the Collection level.
You can redisplay worthy reviews on your homepage or category landing page that your moderation team has featured using the Featured API. This will drive traffic to user reviews and provides incentive to your users to write exemplary reviews.
Reviews and Ratings API Use Cases
Products are a great opportunity to solicit feedback from your community in the form of reviews. What types of products do you cover already? What types of products does your audience look to you for expertise around? If you have a specialty or a niche, then you could have a product review use case on your hands.
Think restaurants, hotels, destinations or attractions. You may even have staff members who write professional reviews on these experiences, particularly if you’re a local publication. Why not allow your community to write reviews as well?
Regardless of your brand’s niche, there is relevant content that your readers care about that compliments the content that you provide. Help your audience solidify as a community by allowing them to express their opinions on the books, movies, albums or episodes that they are consuming.
Bring the Livefyre experience full circle by letting your community rate each other! Use the Ratings API to let your community rate the finalist photos or videos in the weekly engagements that you run.
One Click Engagement
Ratings provide an excellent opportunity for your users to engage with just one click. The rating options don’t even need to be numerical – you can attach a different sentiment or answer to each rating icon so your users can choose between “lol”, “love it”, “hate it” etc.
Why do your readers come to your site? What do they love to talk about? Whatever it is, you can create a reviews experience around it.
