Enable social sharing and media options for your users.
Livefyre enables you to customize the user interactions available from your site. You may select which social network sites are available for social sharing, use custom tags to call out specific users’ posts, and define the sites from which media may be posted. The following sections outline available customizations.
- Hovercards: enable or disable user hovercards across your site.
- Custom HTML: allow moderators, owners and bloggers to add custom HTML attachments to content published through Comments or Live Blog.
- Manage Embedded Media: define the sources from which users may post media, and those from which media posts will be banned.
- Referral Tracking: track clicks back to your page from social networks.
The Livefyre Hovercard is a popup that displays a quick snapshot of user information, including display name, bio, social networks, user likes, profile page URL and a link to view their full profile. Hovercards are available for all Livefyre streams, including Comments, Live Blog and Chat.
Note: Hovercards may be switched on or off at the network level only, and are implemented or disabled across all sites under your custom network. Please contact your Account Manager if you would like hovercards switched on for your network.
When you hover over a user’s avatar on Comments, Live Blog or Chat, their Hovercard will appear.
Clicking View Full Profile will take the user to the full profile page for that user.
Note: Hovercards display information included with your User Profile system. Any fields not included in that system will not be displayed in the hovercards. If you do not have public profile pages, no page will be displayed. If you wish to disable Hovercards for your custom network, please contact your Technical Account Manager.
The Custom HTML Embed feature allows moderators, owners and bloggers to add custom HTML attachments to the content they publish through Comments or Live Blog. This feature may be used to attach any content to your posts, including proprietary video players or polling widgets, in addition to the standard images, video players, and other embeds that are automatically expanded by Livefyre Apps.
Work with your Account Manager to enable this feature for your network or site.
To embed custom HTML:
- Click the HTML embed button ( </> ) on the comment editor box to launch the HTML editor box. Note: This button is visible only to moderators and owners.
- Paste your HTML code into the editor, and click OK. (A message will be displayed for any HTML validation errors.)
- A preview of the output is displayed below the comment editor.
- Click Post Comment to display the output in the stream.
Embed Polls in Comments
Livefyre allows you to use this feature to embed Polls in your Comment or Live Blog stream.
From Studio’s App Manager page, click the </> (embed) button to generate an embed code for the Poll. Then copy and paste it into the Add Custom HTML field for the App.
View Custom HTML comments in Studio
Studio displays a preview thumbnail for custom HTML displayed with the comment. Clicking on the thumbnail will display the full attachment.
Note: It is not possible to edit comments that contain HTML code, nor to add custom HTML attachments using Studio.
By default, all media attachments can be embedded into comments. For a comprehensive list of supported providers, please see embed.ly/providers.
Livefyre uses Embed.ly, and standard oEmbed protocols, to embed media in App streams, and will pass through all media data provided by its source.
Embed.ly will pass through all available information, including the media’s title, description, thumbnail, and embed code for any provided URL. The availability of these items varies by provider. For example: Facebook does not return thumbnails for its videos, and passes only an embeddable video. Clicking Play will start the video (similar to YouTube’s display format). Twitter passes only static images, and does not send down videos. Therefore, Twitter native videos may not be played from within a Livefyre stream.
You may prevent certain attachments from being embedded into comments when embedding the comment stream. You may also choose to hide all Embed.ly expansions on the network, site and conversation level using Studio, displaying only links to the media, not fully embedded media.
Please see Restricting Media for more information.
Livefyre appends a referral variable to the URL when a comment is posted or shared to a social network, and for permalinks included in Livefyre emails. Use this variable to track referral traffic from Livefyre Apps to your social or owned properties.
Please see Referral Tracking for more information.
